Sometime in late 2019, the world changed as we know it. We began a shift to a different way of living, trying our best to navigate and adapt to a new way of life imposed on us. On January 30, 2020, the WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global health emergency, and on March 11, 2020, WHO announced COVID-19 a global pandemic.

This declaration ushered in a new life for humans and brought with it many challenges and difficulties. The Pandemic was deadly, and the mortality rate was high. With this development came a need to change how humans live and survive. The human race soon gained the ability to test for the virus and get the results in less than 48 hours. With this new advancement came the hope that the world will go back to normal one day soon.

From the onset of the Pandemic, the ProDevs team has had a longing to be part of advancements that would make life a little bit easier in these not-so-easy times. Our goal was to be part of the ongoing effort to halt the Pandemic. We are proud to say that we have made our minor impacts in many little ways; after all, the saying goes, “an ocean starts with a single drop of water.” One of the many ways ProDevs has played a part is by helping with the verification and authentication of Covid 19 results in Lagos & Rivers State through Medbury Medicals Ltd.

The project commenced in August of 2020, when the need to test more Nigerians became apparent. Working alongside the Lagos/Rivers State government and Medbury Medicals, we revamped an entire testing portal and changed (ensuring effectivity) the process by which patients can book to get tested. A platform gets created by us, where consumers can book their reservations and get their results from their homes/offices’ comfort after their sample gets collected, all within a 24hr window. These results have a document ID with an EPID/Lab code number that can verify the authenticity of the result and ensure maximum confidentiality.

This action makes it possible for patients both at home and onsite to get tested seamlessly and allow them to receive a verified certificate of their test outcome. We aimed to ensure ease of usage for every person who signs up to get tested. We understood the anxiety that comes with testing and having to wait for results. Hence, we created a platform that gives you peace of mind.

The process flow we adopted was quite simple and easy to use/follow;

1. The patient is received, and an appointment get created
2. The payment gets made, and confirmation is confirmed
3. The patient gets moved to the lab for sample collection within the portal.
4. Once sample results are out in the lab, a result document gets generated for the patient on the portal, where they can view and download.

The project achieves a quick turnaround time for individuals seeking to get tested. It considers the busy schedule of individuals and the times we live in, where social distancing has become a norm. Users can get results quicker and through more convenient means (SMS and email) without interacting with too many people. In addition to the ease of usage for its end users, the platform also enables the Medbury team to track all operational, sales, and financial reports.

With this project offered by ProDevs in conjunction with Medbury Medicals and the State governments, we have curbed the forgery of Covid-19 results, have given people an easier way to get tested, and most importantly, are playing our part in keeping more people safe through the Pandemic.
